20.000 Kyats

Myanmar's highest-denomination banknote was introduced as the country's economy buckled under the weight of the February 2021 military coup — the kyat lost roughly half its value against the dollar within two years of the takeover, and the central bank, now effectively under junta control, responded partly by expanding the note supply rather than tightening it. The 20,000 kyat note entered circulation into that inflationary pressure, not out of economic confidence.

Pick 87 is the first time this denomination has appeared in Myanmar's modern series, a figure that would have been unthinkable for routine transactions even a decade prior.
