Obverse description Bare head of President El Hadj Ahmadou Ahidjo facing left, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features, occupying the central field. The bilingual circular legend reads 'REPUBLIQUE FEDERALE DU CAMEROUN' and 'FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON' around the upper periphery, with the name 'EL HADJ A. AHIDJO' inscribed below the portrait. Two decorative stylized motifs flank the effigy at mid-field, and the bilingual motto 'PAIX · TRAVAIL · PATRIE' and 'PEACE · WORK · FATHERLAND' arcs along the lower border, engraved by Henri Lagriffoul in an elegant calligraphic script.

Reverse description The coat of arms of Cameroon is prominently displayed in the central field, depicting a shield divided into two textured halves bearing two five-pointed stars above a fasces with scales of justice, flanked by crossed ceremonial axes. The arms are surrounded by an ornate chain border that frames the entire design. The bilingual commemorative legend '10e ANNIVERSAIRE DE L'INDEPENDANCE' and '10th ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE' arcs around the upper and lower portions of the inner field respectively, with the denomination '20000 FRANCS' inscribed prominently at the base. Mint marks and engraver's privy marks are visible in the lower field.
