By the time denominations reached the millions, the printing schedules at regional presses like B. Kühlen in Mönchengladbach were essentially continuous — notes often lost practical purchasing power within days of issue.
The Rhineland's occupation by French and Belgian forces following the Ruhr crisis complicated local monetary circulation further, as Reich currency transfers were disrupted and district-level Notgeld filled the gap.
