| Obverse description | Printed in dark red-purple on a cream ground, the note carries an intricate interlaced Art Nouveau underprint filling the entire field within a dotted inner border and a scrollwork outer frame. The large Gothic-script denomination 'Zwanzig Millionen Mark' occupies the centre, above which the heading 'NOTGELD / FÜR DEN STADT- U. LANDKREIS GELSENKIRCHEN' is set in roman capitals. At the foot, two circular official seals flank the authorisation text and date 'Gelsenkirchen, den 21. September 1923', with signature lines for the Oberbürgermeister (Stadt Gelsenkirchen) at lower left and the Kreisausschuß (Landkreis Gelsenkirchen) at lower right; the numeral '20000000' is printed vertically along the right margin. |
