This piece belongs to Poland's long-running "History of the Zloty" collector series, which the NBP used to document the monetary history of the Polish state across multiple issues. The 2007 entry in that series draws on a numismatic tradition stretching back to the early Jagiellonian period, when the zloty functioned as a unit of account before it ever existed as struck coinage.
Nordic gold — a copper-aluminum-zinc alloy — was chosen for the broader Nordic gold collector series partly for its resistance to tarnishing and partly because it photographs well for catalog documentation.
