| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is centred on the square perforation, flanked by two Chinese characters in vertical arrangement: 二 (two) above the hole and 儀 (nghi, meaning 'propriety' or a unit designation) below, together reading 二儀. To the right of the central hole a radiant sun motif is cast in relief, while the left field and surrounding areas are decorated with eight stylised cloud or floral rosette ornaments disposed symmetrically around the perforation. A plain raised rim borders the entire reverse field, reflecting the auspicious decorative vocabulary characteristic of Nguyễn Dynasty gold coinage. |

Thiệu Trị, the fourth Nguyễn emperor, reigned just six years before dying at thirty-seven — a truncated rule that makes gold issues from his reign scarcer than those of his longer-tenured father Minh Mạng. The Huế imperial mint produced gold tiền primarily as ceremonial and gift currency rather than commercial coinage, distributed through court ritual rather than market exchange.
Fr#15 is among the more elusive Thiệu Trị gold pieces in Western reference collections, owing largely to 19th-century French colonial disruption of imperial treasury holdings after 1883.
