2 Thalers / 3½ Gulden - Henry LXII Silver Jubilee

Henry LXII ruled Reuss-Schleiz for an extraordinary stretch, and this double thaler marks his 25th year on the throne — a reign that had survived the Napoleonic reorganization of the German states, the dissolution of the old Reich, and the enforced consolidation of the Reuss territories under the Confederation of the Rhine and later the German Confederation. The Reuss naming convention, whereby every male in the dynasty was named Heinrich and distinguished only by number, was a peculiarity so extreme that it drew comment from foreign diplomats.

The 3½ Gulden valuation alongside the 2 Thaler designation reflects the dual monetary reckoning standard across the German states in this period, before the Dresden Convention of 1838 had fully taken hold in everyday exchange.
