Obverse description Bare-headed portrait bust of Duke Bernhard II of Saxe-Meiningen facing left, rendered in high relief with finely engraved curling hair and a short beard. The effigy is truncated at the neck and occupies the central field. The circular legend reads BERNHARD HERZOG ZU SACHSEN MEININGEN, disposed around the periphery between the inner field and the beaded border. The engraver's name VOIGT appears in small capitals beneath the bust truncation.

Reverse description The elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, richly detailed and mantled with ermine-lined ducal robes draped to either side, occupies the central field. The shield is surmounted by multiple crested helms bearing the dynastic heraldic devices. A circular legend surrounding the design reads 3 1/2 GULDEN VII EINE F. MARK 2 THALER to the upper portion and VEREINS MÜNZE with the date 1846 at the lower portion, all enclosed within a beaded border.
