Obverse description Quartered shield occupying the central field, displaying the personal arms of Grand Master Claude de la Sengle impaled with the eight-pointed cross of the Order of St. John. The shield is divided into four quarters: the upper-left and lower-right quarters bear the plain cross of the Hospitallers, while the upper-right and lower-left quarters display crossed keys or swords charged with fleurs-de-lis, representing the Grand Master's family arms. The shield is rendered in a bold, late-medieval heraldic style consistent with hammered coinage of the period. The entire design is surrounded by a beaded inner border, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer rim.
