Obverse description This side bears the overstriking die of the Province of Holland, with the provincial name HOLLANDIA inscribed in five bold lines across the central field, flanked by a beaded inner circle. A small rosette or cinquefoil ornament appears above the first line of the province name. The date 1701 is placed below the final line of the inscription. Traces of the underlying host coin legend — the Zutphen Rijderschelling of 1691 — are visible around the periphery, reading MO NO ARG CIV ZVTPHANIÆ, confirming the overstrike nature of this piece.
