Reverse description Central field bears a quartered heraldic shield displaying the combined arms of Philip the Handsome, including the arms of Austria, Burgundy, and Gelderland, framed by an ornate Gothic cusped or floral border. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle. Decorative foliate or fleuron elements appear in the angles of the cross dividing the quarters. The date 1492 is incorporated into the circumferential legend, which runs in Gothic uncial script around the outer margin of the coin.
