| Popis rubu | The reverse depicts the Hanoverian Royal Arms of George IV, faithfully reproduced after the original design used on the sovereign coinage of the 1820s. The quartered shield displays the arms of England (three lions passant guardant), Scotland (lion rampant), Ireland (harp), and Hanover (incorporating the crowns and horse of Brunswick, Lüneburg, and Westphalia with the crown of Charlemagne), the last quarter bearing an escutcheon of the Hanoverian arms surmounted by a crown. The ornate cartouche-style shield is surmounted by the Royal Crown, and is flanked by decorative baroque scroll mantling. The surrounding Latin legend reads ARMA GEORGII IV BRITANNIARUM REGIS, disposed along the left and right periphery of the field. |

Charles III ascended to the throne in September 2022, making 2025 issues the third year of his coinage — early enough that collectors are still assembling date runs. The Hanoverian Royal Arms design on a sovereign-sized gold piece revives a heraldic tradition that disappeared from British coinage after 1816, when the death of George III and the accession of George IV prompted a full redesign of the sovereign series under William Wyon and Benedetto Pistrucci.
The personal union between Britain and Hanover ended in 1837 upon Victoria's accession, as Salic law barred female succession to Hanover. The arms had no place on British coinage after that point for over 180 years.
