| Obverse description | Central device depicts the radiant Sun of May with a stylized human face, rendered in high relief with alternating straight and wavy rays radiating outward to fill the field. The sun occupies the majority of the coin's face and is presented in a bold, somewhat primitive provincial style characteristic of early La Rioja mint coinage. A circular legend surrounds the central device reading PROVINCIAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA, separated by a small floral or rosette ornament. The border is formed by a beaded or dotted inner ring aligned with the reeded edge. |
