Obverse lettering CHRIS TIANV S·3·D:G DANIE
(Translation: Christian III (King of) Denmark by the Grace of God)
Reverse description Central area carries a multi-line inscription within a beaded inner circle, reading +II+ / SKILLI / NCK·DA / NSKE· / +59+, denoting the denomination of two Danish Skilling and the last two digits of the year of issue. The surrounding outer legend, separated from the central panel by a beaded border, reads NORWEGIE·VANDA·GOTOR·Q·REX, citing the king's additional titles as Rex of Norway, the Wends, and the Goths. Decorative star or cross stops punctuate the legend at intervals. The lettering is struck in bold, upright Gothic-influenced Roman capitals, consistent with mid-sixteenth-century Danish hammered coinage practice.
