| 正面描述 | The central field features the coat of arms of Kenya, depicting a Maasai shield and two crossed spears flanked by two rampant lions, with a cockerel atop the shield. The date is divided by the arms, appearing to the left and right in the lower field. The peripheral legend reads 'REPUBLIC OF KENYA' along the upper arc, while 'TWO SHILLINGS' curves along the lower arc. The numeral '2' appears in the lower central field beneath the arms, and a ribbon scroll bearing the national motto 'HARAMBEE' is displayed at the base of the shield. |

| 背面描述 | A plain, unadorned left-facing bust of President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features, short beard, and suit collar. The portrait is large in proportion to the flan, filling much of the die area. No legend, inscription, or peripheral text appears on this face, giving the design a stark, monumental quality characteristic of the series. |

Kenya's first post-independence coinage was introduced in 1966, replacing the East African Currency Board issues that had circulated across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania under a shared regional system. The dissolution of that currency union — strained by the diverging economic policies of the three newly independent states — pushed each country to establish its own monetary authority, with Kenya's Central Bank taking over issuance that year.
The "without legend" designation distinguishes this type from later issues that added the Swahili word for republic to the coin's inscription.
