| 表面の銘文 | REPUBLIC OF KENYA 1966 HARAMBEE 2 TWO SHILLINGS (Translation: All pull together.) |
| 裏面の説明 | A plain, unadorned left-facing bust of President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features, short beard, and suit collar. The portrait is large in proportion to the flan, filling much of the die area. No legend, inscription, or peripheral text appears on this face, giving the design a stark, monumental quality characteristic of the series. |

Kenya's first post-independence coinage was introduced in 1966, replacing the East African Currency Board issues that had circulated across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania under a shared regional system. The dissolution of that currency union — strained by the diverging economic policies of the three newly independent states — pushed each country to establish its own monetary authority, with Kenya's Central Bank taking over issuance that year.
The "without legend" designation distinguishes this type from later issues that added the Swahili word for republic to the coin's inscription.
