Reverse description A centrally placed groundnut (peanut) plant, Arachis hypogaea, rendered in fine relief by engraver Paul Vincze, showing the characteristic compound leaves, aerial flowering stems, and pendant seed pods at the base, symbolising Nigeria's principal agricultural export of the era. The date 1959 appears above the plant in the upper field. The circular legend FEDERATION OF NIGERIA arcs across the top, while TWO SHILLINGS curves along the lower periphery, flanked on each side by a six-pointed star ornament. The engraver's initials P.V. are visible at lower right of the plant. The border is composed of a continuous row of beads.
