Zambia's independence coinage of 1964 was struck before the country formally severed its currency from the Rhodesia and Nyasaland pound system, which meant these shilling-denominated pieces circulated alongside the old colonial issues for a brief transitional window. The shilling was abandoned entirely when Zambia decimalized in January 1968, introducing the kwacha and ngwee — making this entire series obsolete after fewer than four years of legal tender life.
