The date 1509 appears in the lower field beneath the horse. | Descrizione del rovescio | Central achievement of arms consisting of a large crowned composite shield bearing the imperial double-headed eagle, quartered with the arms of the Habsburg hereditary lands, surrounded by a radiating arrangement of sixteen smaller escutcheons representing the principal territories and provinces of the empire, each rendered in fine heraldic detail. The entire composition is contained within an inner beaded border, with a continuous Latin legend encircling the periphery proclaiming Maximilian as king and most powerful prince of the many provinces of Europe. |
