Visible on the example shown are the remnants of a crowned royal shield flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, with fragments of the royal legend partially legible around the periphery, including portions reading 'FERDIN VII' and 'DEI GRATIA'. The strike of the insurgent countermark has distorted portions of the reverse field. The surviving details of the host coin design are worn and partially obliterated, consistent with coins that circulated extensively before and after countermarking. |
