Reverse description A bold cross with splayed arms divides the field into four quarters, each enclosed within a curved octolobe or quatrefoil cartouche; the quarters contain alternating castles of Castile (upper left and lower right) and rampant lions of León (upper right and lower left), rendered in fine relief. The surrounding circular legend reads HISPANIARVM REX with the date 1717 positioned at the top of the coin between two rosette stops. The design is enclosed within a toothed outer border consistent with the milled production of the Segovia mint.
