| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by the quartered royal arms of Castile and León, featuring alternating castles (Castile) and rampant lions (León) in the upper quarters, with the arms of Granada and Aragon in the lower quarters, all surmounted by an ornate royal crown. A small escutcheon at the base bears the arms of Portugal and other dynastic territories. The shield is enclosed within a decorative cartouche, with the mint mark and assayer's initial visible to the sides of the shield. A partial Latin legend encircles the design, reading :PHILIPVS:III:DEI:GRATIA:, identifying the issuer as Philip III by the grace of God. Typical of hammered macuquina (cob) coinage, the flan is irregular with portions of the legend and design partially off-flan. |
