Applied to the field to the right of the bust is the Cuban lattice countermark of 1841, consisting of a rectangular punch bearing a grid or lattice pattern enclosing a central sunburst or rosette motif, applied by Cuban authorities to validate the host coin for local circulation. The bust is uncrowned and faces right in the classical tradition established under the Madrid mint's milled coinage series. |
