| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents a portrait of Alberto Santos Dumont, the pioneering Brazilian aviator known as 'The Father of Aviation,' occupying the left side of the coin in high relief. To the right, the denomination 2 REAIS is prominently displayed in the field, accompanied by the facsimile signature of Santos Dumont, the inventor of the 14-Bis aircraft. The overall composition balances the figurative portrait with the typographic elements in a clean, modern design befitting a commemorative issue. |

The 14-Bis was the aircraft Alberto Santos-Dumont flew at Bagatelle field outside Paris on October 23, 1906 — the first powered, heavier-than-air flight officially witnessed and verified by the Aéro-Club de France. Brazil has long contested the Wright Brothers' 1903 Kitty Hawk flight on the grounds that it relied on a catapult launch, making Santos-Dumont's unassisted takeoff the legitimate first. This coin was issued on the centennial of that flight, a date Brazil treats as a genuine national milestone in aviation history rather than a footnote to an American story.
