The surrounding Latin legend in Gothic letterforms reads FERDINADVS REX R, an abbreviated reference to Ferdinand as King of the Romans. The flan is irregular at the edges, and the strike shows typical unevenness of hand-hammered feudal coinage. The overall design closely follows imperial iconographic conventions of the period.
