| Obverse description | The South African coat of arms is depicted centrally in the field, featuring the secretary bird with outstretched wings, a Nguni shield and spear, and the national motto '!KE E: /XARRA //KE' inscribed on the lower scroll. The date '2016' is split to either side of the arms. Surrounding the central device, the name of the country radiates outward in all eleven official languages arranged around the field: Afrika Dzonga, Suid-Afrika, Ningizimu Afrika, Aforika Borwa, Afurika Tshipembe, Afrika Borwa, iSewula Afrika, South Africa, uMzantsi Afrika, iNingizimu Afrika, and a Khoisan-script rendering. The engraver's initials 'ALS' appear below the coat of arms. |
