Reverse description The copper-nickel centre presents a bold high-relief composition of Hercules, draped in a Nemean lion-skin and brandishing a sword, in close combat with the multi-headed Lernean Hydra, whose serpentine necks and heads rear upward toward the right of the field. A Greek meander (key) frieze ornaments the lower portion of the central disc, above the denomination numeral 2 and the Pobjoy Mint mark PM, while the inscription THE LERNEAN HYDRA is positioned in the upper field of the centre. The nickel brass outer ring bears the legend THE LABOURS OF HERCULES along the left and upper arc and POUNDS along the lower arc, separated by a continuous beaded inner border.
