Several stylized birds with metallic plumage are shown in various positions across the field, evoking the sixth Labour of Hercules from Greek mythology. A classical Greek meander (key pattern) frieze runs along the lower portion of the inner field. The incuse legend THE STYMPHALIAN BIRDS appears to the left in the field, while the denomination 2 appears below the central scene flanked by the designer's initials AA and the Pobjoy Mint mark PM.
