Part of the Royal Mint's broader programme of literary commemoratives issued through British Crown Dependencies, this piece marks the 170th anniversary of Dickens's serialised novel — though Great Expectations first appeared in All the Year Round in weekly instalments from December 1860, making 2020 a slightly loose anniversary peg. Jersey has no particular connection to Dickens or the novel; the island's role here is administrative, providing a separate legal tender framework while the Royal Mint handles production.
