Additional information

Jersey's commemorative output for WWII anniversaries has been consistent if unremarkable, but the Battle of Britain holds particular local weight — the island was occupied by German forces from July 1940 until liberation in May 1945, making the RAF's victory in the summer skies of that year a matter of existential consequence for the Channel Islands rather than a distant national triumph. The eightieth anniversary issue appeared in 2020, a year when planned commemoration events were largely cancelled due to the pandemic.
