At centre, a crowned King John is shown enthroned beneath a decorated Romanesque arch, flanked by an ecclesiastical figure at left raising a hand in blessing and holding a book, and an armoured knight at right bearing a shield and a scroll. The scene is rendered in a flat, stylised manner evocative of 13th-century manuscript illustration.
