Issued to mark the 2002 Commonwealth Games held across Manchester, Cardiff, and other UK venues, this coin was part of a four-piece set — one for each of the home nations. The Wales piece was struck in comparatively lower numbers than the England issue, reflecting allocated mintages by nation rather than population proportion. Manchester hosted the main athletics program while Cardiff's events were limited to shooting, making the "Games in Wales" designation somewhat narrower in scope than collectors sometimes assume.
