Churchill has appeared on British coinage before — most notably the 1965 crown struck immediately after his death, the first time a non-royal had appeared on a UK circulation coin in the modern era. This 2024 issue marks the 60th anniversary of his death and continues the Royal Mint's ongoing commemorative two-pound program, which has leaned heavily on British historical figures since the bimetallic format was standardized in 1998.
