Pitcairn Islands coinage is legal tender in name only — the island's roughly fifty inhabitants use New Zealand dollars in daily life, and coins issued under the territory's authority are produced entirely for the collector market. This piece is no exception. The 2023 A.A. Milne-themed colored issue was released under license as part of a broader wave of commemorative programs that Pacific micro-territories have used to generate revenue since the 1990s, when Pobjoy Mint and similar private minters began aggressively developing such arrangements.
