| Beschrijving voorzijde | A rampant bear facing right, rendered in low relief in the crude provincial style typical of early 18th-century Swiss cantonal coinage. The bear, the heraldic symbol of Appenzell Innerrhoden, is depicted with outstretched claws and an open mouth, occupying the central field. The denomination numeral '2' appears to the left of the bear and the letter 'D' to the right, indicating 2 Pfennige. The coin exhibits a milled or grained edge on the obverse rim. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Appenzell Innerrhoden was one of the last Swiss cantons still striking its own billon small change well into the eighteenth century, a persistence rooted less in economic necessity than in the canton's fierce jealousy of its autonomy — the half-canton had separated from Ausserrhoden in 1597 over the Reformation and spent the following century and a half asserting independence through every available institution, including its mint. The HMZ reference places this among a tightly grouped series of minor issues, with variety distinctions tracked to specific die combinations.
