| Obverse description | Dark blue-black intaglio engraving on a pale underprint, with an oval vignette at left containing a portrait of an elegantly attired woman wearing a jewelled crown and pearl necklace. To the right, a secondary vignette depicts a group of workers or merchants engaged in trade, rendered in fine line engraving. The bank title 'EL BANCO NACIONAL DE MEXICO' appears in bold letterpress across the upper centre, with the date and place of issue, denomination 'DOS PESOS' in an ornamental panel, and the promise-to-pay clause below. The 'BANCO NACIONAL' legend arcs across the upper portion of the central medallion, and denomination numerals '2' appear in diamond cartouches at the upper corners. A rectangular cancel stamp in dark ink, reading 'MEXICO / MEDIO CENTAVO / BANCO NACIONAL', has been applied at upper left. The overall design relies entirely on intricate geometric engine-turned patterns with no pictorial vignette. |
