| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is printed entirely in black and presents a dense guilloche composition built around two large interlocking rosette medallions of fine lathe-work, set against a uniformly engraved background of engine-turned patterns. At centre, a rectangular white panel bears a manuscript cashier's signature above the printed legend 'CAJERO', overlaid with a circular red wax or ink seal reading 'BANCO NACIONAL'. The overall design is austere, relying entirely on the geometric precision of the guilloche work for its anti-counterfeiting effect. |

The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia had a troubled final decade. Congress voted to liquidate it in 1894, but the institution dragged on in a diminished capacity — issuing notes, managing debt, and slowly winding down — until the War of the Thousand Days erupted in 1899 and fiscal discipline collapsed entirely. Notes from this period were printed domestically by Litografía Nacional rather than through foreign security printers, a cost-driven decision that shows in the relatively modest production quality of the series.
The official stamp serving as the primary security feature reflects how thin the bank's anti-counterfeiting resources had become by this point.
