Honduras established the Banco Nacional in 1889, but the institution collapsed almost immediately under the weight of political instability and the government's inability to back its own paper. The 1891 issue dates to that short, troubled window before the bank's effective dissolution, making surviving notes from this series genuinely rare rather than artificially so.
Pick 14 is catalogued with considerable uncertainty around surviving population — confirmed examples in any condition are infrequently offered at auction.
