The Estado de Honduras issued paper currency in the 1840s under conditions of chronic fiscal stress — the republic had been independent for barely two decades, and institutional banking infrastructure was essentially nonexistent. Notes like this one were instruments of necessity, not policy confidence.
P#2 is among the earliest documented Honduran paper issues. Surviving examples are extremely rare; most are known only from archival references or single institutional holdings.
