Rubielos de Mora is a small hill town in Teruel province — deep in Republican-held Aragon during the Civil War, and cut off from the banking infrastructure that had collapsed along with central authority. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities issued their own emergency paper in 1936–37, but Teruel province examples are among the scarcest, partly because the front passed through the region with particular violence during the Teruel offensive of late 1937 and early 1938, destroying local records and much of the circulating stock.
The official stamp substitutes for virtually every other security measure. Locally printed, hand-stamped, and valid only within the town's immediate economy.
