Description de l’avers	Bare-headed effigy of King Nicholas I of Montenegro in left-facing profile, depicting the elderly monarch with short hair and a full beard, rendered in high relief against a smooth field. A decorative spray of olive branches is positioned beneath the truncation at the base of the portrait. The engraver's initials 'SS' (Stefan Schwartz) appear on the truncation. The circular legend in Cyrillic reads НИКОЛА I Б.М. КРАЉ И ГОСПОДАР ЦРНЕ ГОРЕ (Nicholas I, By the Grace of God, King and Ruler of Montenegro), running along the upper and lateral periphery.

The design is flanked by a wreath composed of oak branches on the left and olive branches on the right.
