Nepal's copper coinage under Tribhuvan was produced at a time when the Rana prime ministers held the actual levers of power — the king reigned in name while the Rana oligarchy governed absolutely. Tribhuvan's eventual break from this arrangement in 1950, when he sought asylum in the Indian embassy and flew to Delhi, effectively ended over a century of Rana dominance. These coins predate that rupture entirely, struck when his authority was largely ceremonial.
KM#709 was minted across nearly a decade with minimal variation between dates, making year-specific attribution dependent on close die examination rather than any deliberate design change.
