Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left, the legend reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), identifying this as a coin of the Joseon Dynasty's standard Sangpyong currency series. The characters are rendered in raised relief against a flat, unadorned field, with no inner or outer rim decoration beyond the plain raised border. The casting surface displays typical hand-finishing characteristics of Korean provincial mint production, with slight irregularities consistent with period manufacture.
