| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned shield of Brabant — bearing the rampant lion — surmounted by a large cross whose arms extend to the inner circle, with smaller decorative elements occupying the four quarters. A beaded inner circle encloses the central device. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads PHS DEI GRA ARCHID AVST DVX B, referencing Philip by the grace of God, Archduke of Austria and Duke of Brabant. The flan is irregular, as characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |
