Adrian of Gaveren acquired the lordship of Elsloo through inheritance in the mid-fifteenth century, and his copper mite issues reflect the fragmented monetary landscape of the lower Meuse valley, where petty lordships retained the right to strike small denomination coinage well into the Habsburg consolidation of the Netherlands. Elsloo's output was modest by any measure, and survivors in any condition are genuinely scarce.
