Obverse description Printed in black intaglio over a polychrome lithographic underprint, the obverse carries an oval portrait vignette at right of Prudente José de Morais Barros, third President of the Republic (1894–1898). The denomination numeral 2 appears in panels flanking the medallion on both sides. Inscriptions around the vignette identify the issuing authority and cite Law No. 4635-A of 8 January 1923 as the legal basis for issue.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in polychrome intaglio and centres on the Coat of Arms of the Republic of the United States of Brazil, set against a fine guilloche background. The denomination numeral 2 appears in panels on either side of the central vignette. Institutional and state inscriptions, including the founding date of the Republic, are arranged around the arms.
