Paderborn's municipal savings bank joined the wave of Kleingeldersatz emergency issues in 1920, when the postwar coin shortage left German towns scrambling to print their own fractional substitutes. The Ruhfus press in Dortmund was a workhorse for Westphalian notgeld commissions during this period, turning out runs for dozens of municipalities across the region.
