The eagle bears upon its breast a shield charged with the Hohenzollern arms, surrounded by the chain of the Order of the Black Eagle, with decorative scrollwork and oakleaf sprays at the base. The legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by the date 1901 at right, while the denomination ZWEI MARK appears in the lower field, separated by five-pointed star stops.
