| Obverse description | The arms of Lübeck displayed as a double-headed eagle with wings spread, each head facing outward, bearing a plain shield on its breast divided per fess, rendered in the Wilhelmine heraldic style. The eagle's talons rest upon ornate acanthus scrollwork at the base of the design. A beaded inner border frames the composition, with the mint mark 'A' appearing in the lower exergue. The encircling legend reads FREIE UND HANSESTADT LÜBECK, arranged around the periphery within a dentilated outer border. |

The legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by the date 1901 at right, while the denomination ZWEI MARK appears in the lower field, separated by five-pointed star stops.
