Obverse description The state coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria occupies the central field, featuring a rampant lion within a shield, flanked by wheat sheaves tied with a ribbon, and surmounted by a five-pointed star. The dates 681 and 1944 appear on a scroll at the base of the arms. The Cyrillic legend НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ arcs along the upper rim, separated from the field by a beaded border with decorative cross motifs. The denomination numeral 2 is prominently rendered in large relief below the arms, with the currency designation ЛЕВА to the right and the date 1981 to the left.

Additional information

Bulgaria issued this coin to mark the 1981 World Hunting Exposition held in Plovdiv — one of the largest such events ever staged in the Eastern Bloc, drawing exhibitors from dozens of countries at a moment when the Soviet sphere was eager to project cultural legitimacy through international spectacle. The exposition was a rare instance of Bulgaria hosting a genuinely global event during the Zhivkov years.
